When something goes wrong with your browser or something, I get something saying "Send error report." On it it says Preparing error report and connecting to server. But here's the thing, a relative had lost his internet connection and got one of them and tried sending an error report and it did what it usually did and said error reporting completed. But how could that be true while he lost his internet connection? I now have a feeling that those "send error reports" are actually no good and don't do a thing.

Dint really fully understand what you said there. The Send Error Report things to me are actually useless. It does nothing but terminate the program that where you got the error from. Just ask your relative to contact his ISP to help him with his connection.

Well, I'm not sure but I think I had read a magazine or something which said that those things were useless and could cause a security risk.

Just imagine how many error reports Microsoft gets a day. Now imagine how long it takes to sort through all of these. The error report does work, but it's not specifically for the person who sent the error report. If Microsoft finds the source of the problem after checking the error report, they'll fix it and release the fix in the next Windows Update so that ALL people getting that error, no longer get that error.
Don't listen to the guy above who says it causes a security risk.

They are useless. That is one of the bad things about Microsoft. If you get that problem it just means that the program is not responding. Something went wrong. So nothing major but if you KEEP getting the same problem I would search for further support. Either your ISP or Yahoo! Answers or a Computer Geek forum.

Brandon

This may not be the answer you want, but I get those messages all the time. If I sent an error report everytime I got the message, Microsoft would have millions of messages from me. So, I wouldn't bother sending them. Hope this helped! Please vote me as the best voter!!!!! Thanks!

The error reports go to a computer and are put in files. When enough of the same accumulate the engineers will look at them and try to figure out what is happening. I have had several answer back witha message that popped up on the screen and told me what to do to fix the problem, or at least told me what caused the problem and I had to figure out the solution. They are not a total waste. Even though you may thing the connection is lost, the message will still go or will go into off-line and send next connection availability.
