My local police has just encrypted there frequencies my police scanner just stop transmitting the police dispatch channel as well as the other 9 channels they had. I was told they switched to 800mhz. I don’t know much about this, I went to radio shack they told me I need an 800mhz trunking scanner apco25 . Ok well they told me there scanner will automatically find the channel which is only one the main channel (dispatcher) that the police dept. are allowing or the fcc says that they have to allow. Well when they attempted to show me the scanner and tried to scan for the channel there was all static, it appeared they did not know what they were doing and told me I would have to get the frequencie or code from the police station. Ok does anyone know about this? what do I really need to do? is this going all digital or can I just get a reg. 800mhz scanner. HELP..

The RadioShack you went to did not know what they were talking about. When it comes to scanner freqs that are encrypted you can NOT bypass that. If frequinces are are the 800 band then you can only hear the dispatcher. You can get scanner “codes” for California at FreqOfNatures.com.
