does anyone know the best & free antivirus?

i already install avira but i can't update it so i want to change my antivirus..
i know some av that slow down computer such as avast and ca antivirus…
i also know about AVG.. but it cant detect some virus…..
last week, i go to cyber cafe and download something that my computer cant.. then i scan my pendrive using AVG.. AVG say that my pendrive has no virus..when i go back home, avira found 2 virus..
so does anyone know the best & free antivirus??
