Is avg ligitamate? can i have avg and norton both on there opperating together? How do i protect my computer better?

Avast works much better then AVG, on the official AVG website it says that the free version does NOT scan downloads for malicious content where as Avast DOES, whats the point in having anti-virus software that can't prevent viruses from being download.
Avast is free and effective, it scans your downloads for viruses (unlike AVG) and also includes anti-rootkit and anti-spyware, it can also run a boot scan.
Avast Anti-Virus: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.ht…
I use Avast along side Comodo Pro firewall both are free and have been independently tested and proven to be more effective then Norton or Mcafee.
Comodo Pro: http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
Remove Norton and install Avast and Comodo Pro these two programs work really well together, are completely free, will provide more protection then Norton and use half the resources.

Norton is rubbish. It is the worst anti-virus product currently on the market. At one time it used to be good - before Symantec took over. Norton acts more like a virus and entrenches itself deep into your system. The software will do more harm to your PC than good and when you to to remove it, it leaves behind over 375 traces in your registry files/folders and subsystem. You have to download their removal tool just to get it off of your system. You are much better off with a free anti-virus product.
NOD32 and Kaspersky are the best anti-virus applications and much better than the best sellers Norton and McAfee (recent tests at av-comparatives.org). If you want a free anti-virus, AVG, Avast! or AntiVir all are better than Norton.
You can only have 1 anti-virus on your computer or there will be system conflicts and you will be LESS protected.

I’ve used Norton, avast, avg, nod32 among others. For paid, I’d use NOD32. For free, I would (and do) use Avast. I’ve used AVG in the past, and it doesn’t completely suck, so the answer to your question is:
Yes, AVG works.
I also suggest using Windows Defender in addition to an anti-virus program. I’ve had good luck with it, and its free.

i’ve used them all and i have found AVG to be the best one. Norton is a big file and uses a lot of system resources and does not find a lot of new viruses out there.

AVG free really is free (for personal use); I’ve used it for 6 years with no problems. If you use it, remove Norton - you only need 1 good virus scanner and AVG downloads updates every day

Ive used AVG for years and never had any problems( this is the free version too) just remember to run a scan every now n then, and dont do too much that might get virus’s- visting dodgy sites, downloading with Lime wire n bittotrent etc
Having two Antivirus’ on the same computer can conflict with each other and slow the PC down alot. as both are doing the same task at the same time, so you need to remove Norton before you add anyhting else.
And yes Norton is pretty appaling, it crippled our old PC worse than any virus could.

I don’t recommend you to use AVG, because I have used it before and i don’t think it is a good antivirus system. I suggest you to use McAfee, it is the antivirus system i am using now and i think it is pretty powerful.

Yes AVG is one of the best -if not the best- free anti-virus on the market. It has a thorough daily updated virus database, it has a link scanner, email scanner, anti spyware and other cool features. Best of all it’s free.
If you have lots of pop-ups, pop-unders, adwares and spywares. It’s better that you install Ad Aware Personal SE too.
Scan your computer for viruses [AVG] and adwares [Ad Aware] every week or so.
It’s better to have only one anti-virus on computer so they don’t interfere with each other.
