Does light trigger the PIR sensor for a Yale home security alarm?

September 11th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Hi there, I have a Yale home security system. If I was to set up some light switches that turn on and off automatically at certain times, whilst the alarm is armed, does the alarm PIR sensors pick up the light turning on all of a sudden out of darkness? Or do the sensors only detect movement in solid objects?

The light itself more then likely will not. But the heat of the light crossing with the “beams” could activate it. I’ve had one customer have a false motion alarm because they left their curtains open in their sunroom and the sun was shining directly on the detector.

Here’s an article to help understand how motions work. http://www.howstuffworks.com/burglar-alarm2.htm

Anything that breaks the “beams” or “waves” can cause it to activate.
