no antivirus protects from viruses, some antiviruses have other things installed to detect ad/spy/malware as well so basically youll need an antivirus and a ad/spy/malware detector unless you get a full package with Kaspersky internet security , and others that have those extras put in

I don’t have any kind of Anti-virus programs on my computer (desktop) and I have no problems with any of these things. I run a really tight ship on here and I know what to and not to get into to avoid these virus’.
Before I did any of this, I used McAffee, and had nothing but problems, as well as Norton.

NO!!! Definitely not. Just like any security software, Mcafee needs to make some money. The way they do this is, some spyware companies will pay Mcafee to let their stuff through in exchange for a sweet sweet payday. Most all security companies do this. It’s like paying off the guard at the bank so you can run in and rob it.

You have to update the database of viruses of any program to keep the new threats from infecting your computer. I used to use McAfee, but it wasn’t so good. I use the free version of AVG and SpyBot with the Windows Firewall. That has been the best on our three computers.

I heard of these on KimKomando’s radio show and they haven’t let me down.

No Antivirus protects you 100%. What they do do is protect you from the worst ones, but that all depends on what software you use and if you have access to automatic updates to the virus defenitions. It also helps to know exactly what your downloading and what sites you should visit or not. This prevents you from being infected by something you could have avoided.
I myself use McAfee and don’t run into problem with viruses, trojans and such. If you already use McAfee, stick with it. if you want to make a change, try Kaspersky.
Another thing, since you use the McAfee firewall, try changing the settings of it to “Tight”. This keeps software under control and alerts you to connections. You will have to manually accept or block connections, but it’s better than letting an unknown connection get by and hurt you comp.
