Error reading hard drive on boot?

September 29th, 2008 · 6 Comments

Whenever I turn on my computer it says error has occurred while trying to boot from disk. Press Ctrl + alt + delete to reboot. I reboot, and the same message came up. I decided to use the OS dis kto format my hard drive. I go to boot from disk, it says press any key to boot from disk, I do so and then it says something along the lines of detecting hardware configuration. The nit jsut goes to a black screen and stays there. I have reset my BIOS and everything. Any help?
Thanks everybody, but it seems as if safe boot is inneffective. I have ru nit in safe mode, so I know what's going on, but it will not enter safe mode if I press F8.
Also, If I enter the disk and try to format it, it goes to the "detecting hardware", and then to a black screen where it freezes and stays forever.

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode (F8)?

    • 2 thisismeincalif // Sep 29, 2008

      Try this http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/483/xp_repair_fix_master_boot_record_recovery_console

Try booting into safe mode ( tap F8 as soon as the system starts and you should see a boot menu that will allow you to boot in to safe mode).

If this doesn’t work for you, get the CD of Windows XP and boot from that and install XP on top of your current installation, this will replace your system files. It will not delete any of your pre-installed programs or your data files, just do not select “Format” during installation, select “repair”.

      Hi,

Check if your CPU cooling fan is working properly.
Take your memory module out and clean it for dust and rust with an ERASER !!

If you have more than one memory module clean them and insert them one by one and try to boot.

And last but not least try the same with a new or known good power supply.

      Best regards,

      E.T.

      what so are you using
if you are using win xp then you can put cd in drive and turn computer on then computer start hit F8 to boot from cd then you should be able to pick option to reinstall windows ,but it will say install windows.

it you do not have cd then turn your computer on and press F8 then pick restore recently known good configuration after that it should start up
when a drive is messed up really bad then sometime it takes doing this a few time to get it back up
but the best way is if you have cd
