June 8th, 2008 · 8 Comments

I don't understand why. the total space on dive C is 127 GB and the available GB is 109. I have run spy bot, Ccleaner, disk cleanup, disk defragmenter, and my registry cleaner! and I always have Avast running in the background. but still it is SOOO slow it's killing me. *cries* please help me!

      Go to start > Run > msconfig.exe and go to the startup folder and remove anything that does not need to be there when the computer starts up such as quicktime, msn messenger, anything adobe, etc.. Also, max out your ram with the capabilities ..i.e. if your computer can handle 2 GB or Ram or 4GB or ram, then go for it!

      It should be fine then …..especially if you have ran your disk defragmenter already.

      Try turnging off program you don't need running.

      Go to Start -> Run

      Type 'msconfig'

      Go to the startup tab and uncheck programs that you recognize that you don't need to start up when the computer starts. It sounds like you don't have enough RAM to run a bunch of programs at one time so it slows down your computer.

      sounds like you need more RAM dude.

      uninstall all the programs you used to clean up your computer, including avast. then uninstall all the programs you don't need. also, check the programs that are starting up with your computer, and make sure nothing you don't want starting up is. after that, restart your computer and pray.

      Is it slow just starting up or all the time? and is it desktop or laptop?
      Either way try and go to task manager and on the processes page go to view and select cloumns and select the "virtual memory size". check what is taking up the most VM on your computer and try to stop using/uninstall this. It's a better indication as to what is slowing your computer down.
      Sorry if this doesn't help

      Click CTRL-ALT-Delete and click processes, those are all the things you have running in the background! Find what you don't need and disable them!
      You can do the msconf thing, but don't click on anything you are not sure of.

      Your free hard drive space is irrelevant. The amount of your RAM is 1000 times more important.

      If you are not running at least 512 MB of RAM for XP or 1GB for Vista Home Basic or 1.5 GB for Vista Premium, then you might consider an upgrade.

      Do NOT run without Avast!

      Good luck.

      That happens to me all the time, it is a slow as a snail! When your computer gets around 3 years old, like mine, you should get a new computer. Try PC World, the are goo computers and are cheap =)!
