I installed the latest security software my computer. So I decided to uninstall Norton and Symantec files from list of programs.
Right after I did this, my DSL connection through the modem has limited connectivity. I am unable to get connection to Internet. I contacted my service provider; they checked my modem and pronounced it defective. The replacement modem was also defective, and the last replacement modem was junk: it wouldn’t power up at all
I explained uninstallation of Norton and Symantic to the tech support, and although they are shipping another modem, he thinks uninstalling Norton has cut off communication between my computer and the modem. He advised me to call them.
What do you think is wrong?
– Are all of Verizon’s modems defective?
– Is the problem associated with uninstalling Norton?
– How else can I diagnose? I have diagnosed my modem; it says this device is working but with limited connectivity.
– Is there a problem between Windows Vista and uninstalling Norton?
Please tell me what your serious answers. I welcome all suggestions.

Thank you for your answer. I uninstalled Norton through programs installed on my computer where it allows one to uninstall any program. So I did Norton & Symantec, and deleted all respective files from Window's Common File.
Wyatt Earp-thanks. I did remove it but it has caused loss of connection between my computer and modem. I can't wait to fix it. I cannot access Internet.

I have heard horror stories about Norton, how it does stuff to your computer, and how they make it so that it is difficult to get rid of it. That is why I don’t want it on my computer.
I have no ideas on how to fix it though, sorry.

I have never had a problem installing Norton or Symantec, unless it was by doing so my computer got infected.
I have however had problems removing all of one version of Norton to install something else and in that case I used the Symantec(Symantec and Norton are the same company) tool which you can get here

If your installing something else, even if it’s a different Norton product you should use the tool to make sure you get everything off your system
Your asking too many questions, what Norton are you talking about, there are many products. I know Norton 360 works fine with Vista.
I’d be using Ping and Tracert to determine if I had connectivity.
Good Luck

I’ve uninstall Norton a few times and never had that problem. You might want to use the windows tool to repair Internet connection. Its part of xp and vista. Also you didn’t say how you uninstall Norton did you use add and remove. Then delete files on your own? You also could do a system Restore to an early date and see if you get your Internet back
Also you may have had a bad/incomplete uninstall. Which can happen for a number of reasons, like not shutting down all of Norton before uninstalling. So if you have you Norton CD reinstall. Or use System restore. Then see if you internet works. If it does that tells you that it was a bad uninstall. Then download the Norton Removal tool. Uninstall Norton thru add and remove programs. Then run the Norton Removal tool

hi emilly, no joking. let’s see if we can fix it first see the lights on your modem if more than one light is on nothing wrong with modem. shut off you system for at least thirty seconds aft that when you see your windows logo start tapping f8 which will bring you to a safe mode screen scrol down to last good configuration when my computer acted correctly when you get back to your desktop even if you see your norton anti-virus icon hit start>programs>accessories>system tools scrol down to system restore hit create system restore date go to the a date before you had this problem and hit okay your pc will restore then reboot when you get back to your desktop hit start>settings>control panel hit internet options there under general tab delete your history and your cookies now exit back to your desktop now go back to system tools snd defragment this is the most important part so make sure it completes this step. good luck hope i was helpful to you

Cannot connect to the Internet after uninstalling Norton AntiVirus
Situation:
After you uninstall Norton AntiVirus (NAV) and restart the computer, you are not able to connect to the Internet.
Solution:
This can happen if the uninstall process fails and leaves behind a Symantec registry value. Do the following to fix the problem:
——————————————————————————–
WARNING: We strongly recommend that you back up the registry before you make any changes to it. Incorrect changes to the registry can result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify only the keys that are specified. Read the document How to back up the Windows registry for instructions.
——————————————————————————–
Click Start > Run. The Run dialog box appears.
Type regedit and then click OK. The Registry Editor opens.
Navigate to and select the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCP
Double-click the DependOnService value in the right window.
Delete the SYMTDI entry from the list of items.
Click OK.
Click Registry, and then click Exit.
Restart the computer.
