On my toolbar, a message keeps on popping up saying “You have a security problem”. When I click on it, it leads to a site like pcvirusremover2008.com, and if I click cancel, it won’t let me close it unless I close my internet browser.
I also get another message, a Windows security alert, saying that there is a trojan, but when I click enable protection, it sends me to another website. It looks like this:
http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/9719/arghhm0.jpg
Every time it appears, the trojan has a different name. This one said “BankFraud” and another said “GreenScreen” at the end of the name.
I have AVG anti-virus and it has things in the virus vault. I read that files in the virus vault mean that they have been deleted from original location.
Basically, I wanted to know if that message on my toolbar and the pop up from Windows firewall are legitimate, if there really is a trojan in my computer, and how I can get rid of these annoying messages (and the trojan if there is one).

There is a Trojan but it isn’t the ones they describe (I think they are made up ones to panic you into buying their software). The Windows Security alert is probably a fake and you are infected with Trojan.FakeAlert.H. I had a similar problem with fake alerts (The artwork just isn’t right) after browsing some local sites in Amsterdam and when I clicked on the so -called ‘Windows Security alert’ was linked to a site and urged to download ‘PC Antispy’ at a price to cure the problem - I didn’t download obviously!!.
AVG 7.5, Spybot and PC Tools Spyware Doctor identified but didn’t cure the problem and I still got fake ‘alerts’. Downloaded Malwarebytes Anti- Malware and it did cure the problem, I no longer get the ‘alerts’ when I am connected to the internet.
I appreciate that your problem isn’t identical to mine but the above software is worth a try as all the other solutions appear very time consuming, require using a whole suite of ant-virus software using it in Safe mode, examining logs and spending hours on forum sites.
