Fake Spyware Problem?

May 6th, 2008 · 5 Comments

I have this Fake spyware on my computer that keep saying 'warning I am in danger'.
I know the spyware is fake and used the program malwarebytes anti malware to get rid of it but when i restarted my computer it came back again. It's not really annoying because I dont get any popups its just that my screen saver has gone and been replaced and I dont like the one they have given me
I now keep getting the Blue screen of death - could this mean i really have a virus and that the fake spyware is telling the truth?

After having success with one of the above, to clean-up any remaining infection traces, scan for trojans, and spyware and remove (free online scan, no downloaded program) with Ewido Online Scanner ( now known as AVG Anti-Spyware). This is NOT the same as AVG Anti-Virus. Press"Online Spyware Scanner" on the right..

      Good luck.

My first bit of advise is not to spend a penny on a darn thing.
There are plenty of free sites out there that can help you clean your machine up.
Here are few links to look at.

My favorite is Trend Micro's House Call.
      http://housecall.trendmicro.com

it rocks but I would also look at each of the below because they
will help you not get it again!!!

      Spybot Search and Destroy
      http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
      Windows Defender
      http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
      Manual Spyware Removal Guide

Major Geeks is also a great place to ask experts!

Just remember that there is no reason to go out and spend a bunch of money.
There are plenty of free protection out there. Hope this helps.
