I have removed the virus, deleted all the registry entries and .dll files and have used multiple spyware removal softwares, including spydoctor, Rogueremover, etc. I am running windows 2000 Professional. The software has been removed but the icon still stays in the taskbar, and a left or right click on the baloon reinstalls the program. I want to know how to get rid of the taskbar icon.
Thanks Muckdoom (sp) it fixed the problem, others thanks for answering.

Drag them to the recycle bin.

Use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware as it can be used for Windows 2000. This will remove the icon.
"XP SecurityCenter is a rogue anti-spyware program that displays fake results that can only be removed if you first purchase a license of the software. XP SecurityCenter is as much of a scam as a rogue program can be."
Scroll down to "Automated Removal Instructions for XP SecurityCenter using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware:" and it's free to use.

Hi, this is a rogue antivirus program.
It pretends to be fake XP security center, because most people have windows XP. And they are idiots.
And by the way, if you cant download these you will have to buy a usb flash drive and have a friends computer.
P.S. Unplug your internet when you have the programs downloaded to prevent more spyware from downloading.
Download SmitFraud Fix.
http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.p…
Put it onto your desktop and run it.
If it does not run from your desktop, move it into the C:\ Drive and run it from there.
(Go to run and put in C:\ and drag it and run it from there.)
Once you have it running,
http://siri.geekstogo.com/Bitmaps/Fix01b…
* Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
* Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Now to clean.
http://siri.geekstogo.com/Bitmaps/Fix02b…
* Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
* Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
* Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
* You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
* The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
* A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Also, process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user, so ignore the warnings and let the program continue.
Your computer shall be cleaned by now, but time to get some other antivirus programs so it doesn't happen again.
Keep SmitFraudFix just encase.
You're going to want firefox if you dont have it already.
It's so much better than internet explorer, safer and faster.

Why does ClamXAV report SmitFraudFix.exe has the Trojan.Killproc-1 ? I won’t be using THAT tool on this task.
I’ll stick to Malwarebytes and AVG free — both helped clean out this mess.

I used SmitFraudFix, and it was pretty rad…but it didn’t say anyhting about “wininet.dll”, when i did the safe mode clean up. It did find it upon searching, but that made no difference. Furthermore, That damn icon is still in the tray and still popping up even couple of minutes, How do I rid myself of this?

F**K me ther are so mnay people out there claiming they can fix this and that it is really difficult for an idiot like me to figure out who is real and who is fake.
What has the programming world been devolved to but a bunch of bloat code idiots that create this type of spam crap.

Scanned with online link scan and found Trojan.Killproc-1 in SmitFraudFix. Stupid tool dont use SmitFraudFix!

SmitFraudFix is a perfectly fine and often effective tool. It contains a utility program that can kill (or stop) a running process. In order to remove many active malware programs, you must turn them off in order to remove them from the hard disk. The SmitFraudFix program uses that utility to kill a running malware process. This is a “hacker” tool that can be used in bad ways, so some AntiVirus programs report it as being “infected” with “Trojan.Killproc”.
It is unfortunate that it looks like a “bogus” tool, but SmitFraudFix is safe.

I have had this stupid virus twice. Months ago and today. It was horrible the first time, My whole screen turned black instead of blue. It had huge red letters telling me that it was infected. I downed Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and scan it. Then remove the things wrong. It might tell you you restart your computer, so restart it. It should be gone by now. If not. You have a big problem.

I just followed the link posted by muckdoomee and it appeared to work but now I’ve got TWO security center icons on my taskbar instead of one. It does seem like the number of popups has been greatly reduced, so that’s good.
Can anyone provide me with advice?
Thanks.

I just got rid of this virus this morning. I used the Malwarebytes and it did remove the icon tray icons as well. From reading comments if you use the questionable SmitFraudFix the evil little icons remove so I personally would suggest using the Malwarebytes.

Smitfraudfix is awesome, I have used it many times to rid problems, if you are not tech savvy enough to understand it then you should not be using it. SCH hit the nail on the head. Panda and Symantec (among others) both freak when they see it, so temporarily disable your AV, run the tool and then when you are finished enable them. I also love Malwarebytes, however there are certain variants of this trojan that will disable the use of it. Killproc is not a trojan, it has been used in some trojans, and is therefore identified as such. Go to school people, jeez.

SmitFraudfix works, and the guy above who says it “is NOT good,” has no idea what he is talking about.

Can you believe that some A-hole sits at his computer and purposely screws things up for the little guy so that the big boys, Apple,MS, Norton, MacAffee can all get rich? Maybe they are targeting the wrong audience.
Sheesh…
