Fellow techies, what Antivirus program do you use?

October 20th, 2008 · 9 Comments

I used to use AVG Free for years because I never got viruses with it, and I did virus testing on it too. Then I switched to Symantec Endpoint Protection, and I recently uninstalled it because as always, the Norton product slowed down my computer greatly. I now use ESET Smart Security and I find it’s an excellent program. Both Endpoint and ESET Smart Security are expensive antivirus programs that my other tech savvy friends swear by. Of course, as with all computer programs, I paid nothing for either one of the programs (thank you bittorrents).

Of the following, which do you use, and which do you recommend?

Avast!
ESET Smart Security (NOT NOD32, Smart Security is much better)
AVG Free 8.0
Symantec Endpoint Protection
Any other Antivirus (please give a name and description)

Thanks!

      Any other.

If you use anything by Norton, or MCaffee, your asking to get a virus or have a system crash or other such headaches. There Horrible, but just well known.

AVG is ok but i dont put alot of stock in it personally.

My best luck AV's have been Trendmicro, Anything by them product depends on if your talking personal pc or buisness, personal use = Internet security suite is great

      and Panda is also Excellent.

      And both are cheap ;)

After I went from Norton (a disaster!), Avast, and AVG Free, I finally installed ESET NOD 32 and I couldn’t be happier…..

AVG 8.0. AVG rules for me. i have been using it for like 6 years now. not a single virus in all that period. i thought of trying out some other freeware A.V software and went for Avast. Guess what, my PC was infected with virus within 15 days. might have been a coincidence but i switched back to AVG. The best thing about it is it does not slow down your PC.

I use CA anti virus plus which takes care of both spyware & viruses. Then I use the windows firewall & windows defender to back up my security. I also use track eraser pro toclean out all the garbage & make things run faster( thisprogram clean out the index.dat file from your cookie folder which you can’t do manually. Haven’t had a problem in 2 years. Ca updates automatically sometimes 3 times a day if req’d.

Use Quick Heal Antivirus Plus. It costs around 1200/-(1 yr subscription) and believe me, it is Brilliant! Just Leave your PC idle for 2 minutes and then it will not slow down your PC. It works just like Kaspersky but doesn’t slow down the computer.
