I am using Ubuntu 8.04 and have the default Firefox 3 beta 5 and I want to move up to Firefox 3. Whenever I install Firefox 3 it says the install was successful but I the only Firefox that opens is the beta. I somewhat new to Ubuntu so I may be missing something… I used synaptic to install it but nothing happens after I finish.
Iv tried to uninstall the beta then install again but it just opens the beta when iv installed the new version
Iv installed the update and still nothing

have you tried uninstalling Mozilla Firefox?

update,you can try click on up date manger

on ubuntu panel, go to "System" –> "Administration" –> "Update Manager"
then look for firefox 3.0, then click "Install Updates"
restart your firefox browser and your good to go.
btw, firefox 3 icons on linux is still ugly compared to windows. hope they'll fix this stuff…
