I have WIndows Vista and the security protection I got for it was WIndows Live OneCare. But my free trial has ended. Now Im getting pop ups like crazy and my computer is running really slow. I tried looking for free spyware protection and came across STOPzilla but once it found all the spyware on my computer….right when i clicked remove all….it told me i had to register… :/
Please help me find a site where I can get spyware/adware protection that actually takes care of it.

You have Window Vista so I wouldn't worry about downlaoding any more anti-spyware programs. Vista is shipped with a Microsofts own version of a anti-spyware tool. Windowds Defender, it works with Windows XP aswell and can be downloaded and installed from the Microsoft Website, provided you have a genuine copy of Windows of course.
Anyway, I personally use AVG Free 8. Its a all-in-one security suite with spectacular Anti-virus, Anti-spyware, and Resident Sheild. (Resident Shield scans your computers behaviour and analyzes it for unusual things…) You can download it here. http://free.avg.com/ Once it is installed correctly, go into its options and set it up to scan your computer and update automatically. Then you will never have to worry about it again.
However, AVG detects cookies but does not work wonders at removing them. For this issue I would strongly suggest that you download and use Spybot S&D! It can be downloaded at http://www.safer-networking.org . Just install it and run it once every fortnight or so, but update before each scan so that it can remove any new threats. Spybot is also fantastic at protecting your privacy, it can automaticaly delete everything from your browsing history to the recelty used programs in your Start menu!
Hope this helps, see you around on Yahoo7 Answers.

For your Anti-Virus……(Always use only 1 A-V…You must NEVER use more than one anti-virus, Even an expired anti-virus can cause a major conflict… did I mention that you MUST uninstall any old anti-virus products?)
I would suggest Avast, the newest version 4.8. Avast now includes anti-virus, anti-spyware and anti-rootkit components. And all for the low low price of free. You can get it here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
Avoid an anti-virus called AVG (free version). It is wildly popular with children and the computer illiterate but has historically had the lowest virus detection rate of all the popular free anti-virus programs.

Does Vista not have the capability of letting you turn on/off the pop ups? Like XP does when you go into tools/internet options/privacy/pop-up blocker at the bottom???? I also use the option of opting whether or not I allow a cookie to be set. I found by using these 2 items my computer is basically spyware/malware/virus free. I run HouseCall by trendmicro once a week or so and all I've ever had was some malware/grayware this way for over 4 years now. Of course I do not open email unless it's from a person I recognize and yahoo checks for viruses.

go to http://www.download.com
download a-squared free and ad-aware
spybot doesn't work so well on my vista setup
for anitvirus, I'd recommend avast!
use mozilla (there's one website where i get warnings from avast if I use IE, but not firefox), also use adblock plus
run them once a week, along with windows defender (comes on your computer)
make sure to also set a system restore point at some point, since it doesn't seem to set up restore points automatically
