Free VS paid antivirus? What is your opinion? just a poll, hope i get many answers.?

April 26th, 2008 · 4 Comments

We all have been using anti-virus softwares on our pcs whether free or paid.
And heres my experience……
I have used free anti-virus and spyware such as avast, avg, spybot search and destroy, spyware doctor,spysweeper,ad-aware and many more. Most of them slowed down my pc's performance and i dont know why?.Also they were not effective enuff to protect the pc for simple fact i had to reformat my pc due to virus attacks on prior instances.
On the other hand i am currently using paid versions of kaspersky and Norton on my pc's and honestly i feel they are working good for me.I dont know why but many people hate norton but from my personal experience i find it very easy, effective and trustworthy. Also its not making my pc slow.Likewise with kaspersky, infact it has made my pc work faster than ever.
What do you think, guys?

Just one brand may not be enough… I like SpySweeper but many folks gripe about it - reviews on the net are generally positive… but once I had a friend with it who had something that SpySweeper could not remove - so we installed Spyware Doctor and it got the bad guy out of there… Your best bet is to keep around a disk with several different brands ready to go if you do get infected.

      Free. I use these:
      Avira (best free detection): http://www.free-av.com/
      Spyware Terminator: http://www.spywareterminator.com/
      Comodo: http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/
Spyware Terminator with immunise and teatimer: http://www.safer-networking.org/

These all have a very low footprint - Avira just 9.5 megs of memory.

I hate Norton: used it for 5 years and painfully discovered its failings.

I myself, have AVG and it slows my computer down so much… plus about every morning i find itself doing a computer scan, not to mention that it's daily updates every time you start up your computer is a pain in the butt! in my short experiences of paid antiviruses, i noticed it is a lot better, and it doesn't ware my computer down.
