Hi
I had antivrus xp 08 which is pretty bad spyware. I used yahoo anti-spy and Norton anti-virus to supposedly remove it.
Unfortunately since than, the window that says I have so many viruses on my computer disappeared BUT I still have the annoying blue background AND when I use yahoo to search, it redirects to some bogus websites.
I can’t download a lot of anti-spyware programs such as from bleepingcomputer.com, etc., because my computer won’t allow it. It won’t allow me to view those webpages thogh it still says its legit.
I had acccidently blocked the svchost from running, but I reallowed it once I discovered my error.
Is there anyway I can fix this problem?

Hello. Glad to answer your question.
The best and pretty much only way to extinguish a virus or any other kinda threat on your computer is to Fully reformat your hard drive and re install your operating system.
** Remember to back up your files if you do this!
After you do that make sure to IMMEDIATLEY get a good internet security program.
I HIGHLY! Recommend Windows Live OneCare. You can get it free for 90!! Days with NO limitations here:

You should also chose a good antispyware program (even though WL onecare has one!) to run alongside your antivirus. I use and recommend Webroot antispyware. http://www.webroot.com
I hope I have helped you.

These programs that you used; Norton and Yahoo Anti-Spy, cannot deal with rogue and the same for other antivirus and internet security. The program in bleepingcomputer.com removal instructions is Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. I can give you a direct link to download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. Bear in mind that it's FREE and please update it first.
simple instructions > download > update > run in quick scan > you may be prompted to reboot.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware works well to remove things that get past Norton. I assisted a family member who had the same problem you are experiencing and by using the aforementioned program I got rid of it. The basic program is free.
I have another suggestion though; If you have system restore you should turn it off because if a virus, worm, or Trojan infects a computer, System Restore may back it up. You don't want that. When you are done and sure the issue is resolved be sure to turn it back on. Then reboot in safe mode and run the Malwarebytes and the Norton Scans from there. Safe Mode is good if you have a problem that you need to stop from running in order to remove it. The issue you are having is a very insidious one. Safe Mode runs only the bare minimum of programs. Once they are done and the problems have been resolved, reboot normally. You may want to scan again just to be on the safe side.
This is what I did and it worked like a charm.
