my PC gives the following message on boot <windows root>\system32\hal.dll file is corrupt or missing. Re-install …….. it is not giving any other option to go to BIOS or command prompt. I run Windows XP Home edition SP3, G845 Intel board, NTFS format (I formatted the drive from FAT32 to NTFS, but the system was working fine after re-boot). Later I removed microsoft Encarta04 from my PC. It might have caused the problem. When I started the PC in the morning, above msg appeared. I tried to repair through Windows XP CD (SP1), through which I initially loaded the OS and later upgraded through net to SP3. But when I enter the administrator password, it is not accepting saying that the password is not valid. since it is not going to windows I am unable to proceed further.
