You need to format disk before you can use it. Is what I get when trying to open my D drive. This happened totally random. It is a partition, but the other part(the one with windows) works fine.
I tried a recovery tool but it doesn’t even pick it up. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how to retrieve my data?
Please help…..

Just format it. Else load another OS and try accessing the drive.

if it’s an hp the d drive is the recovery partition….just try booting your computer in safe mode first by tapping the F8 key while it is booting up….then try a sytem restore once in safe mode…cheers

You need insert your widows XP or vista CD and then restart the computer and then boot from DVD drive and repair the computer by pressing R. This doesn’t delete your current files though. Only partition system files

dude, this sucks…
First try Safe Mode (press F8 when your system boots before the Windows is Starting screen). Or Safe Mode Command Prompt Only to get you to a DOS shell. Then see if you can access D:
You can also try to do a System Restore to an earlier date (a date when you know it worked).
If this doesn’t help, you can try some other recovery tools.
Have a look at these (I think they have trial versions):

(I’m not affiliated with any of these)
Third…well..accept your losses and format…:-(
