I took my new computer in and got Kaspersky Anti-Virus 8.0.0.358 put on to it and then I found that it has slowed my whole system down quite a lot. I am not 100% sure if it is the cause of the slow downs but there is nothing else that I can think of. My internet is extremely slow and I know it is not the connection or computer because my roommate’s internet works just fine and the internet worked fine before the software was put on. I looked online and it said to restore the settings which I have done like three times, it did not help.
Any computer help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Kapersky, Norton, McAfee, and a few others do use an extreme amount of RAM. So much that if you have 2GB of RAM on your computer, you are going to experience lots of slowdowns.
Try using lighter programs. Microsoft hosts one called Onecare aka Microsoft Security Essentials. You can still get the beta on Softpedia for a limited time. Also get Malware anti-malware.
I would also get IOBIT Advanced Systemcare which is a registry cleaner in case you have loads of registry errors. Computers if left unchecked can run 1,000 registry errors and you will have a nightmare on your hands.

If your computer still has the norton program lying dormant the computer will freeze up. Go to add remove and remove the norton completely then reboot.
Make sure also that norton’s "live update" has also been removed.
Look for any other program on the add/remove list that includes the word "live" and lose that as well.

how much ram have you? Any software Firewall / AV that uses CPU resources is going to slow down your PC? For XP 1Gb or Vista 2Gb of ram for other programs to use. Some PC come with minimum of 512Mb and expect it to function, otherwise use a firmware firewall and AV that doesn’t use CPU resources? Excessive startup programs slows a PC, as does a full hard drive or one that hasn’t been defrag’d for a while. Malware / Spyware another PC slow down, as well as cookies and temp internet files?
