Has AVG slowed down for everyone?

I updated AVG to version 8 and it is set to scan at 6 in the evening. The scan now scans for viruses and spyware at the same time. My PC has a 3700 processor but, after 2 hours (PC left alone to for only AVG to run), the scan is still running.(http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=navclient&hl=en-GB&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GZAZ_en-GBGB258GB258&q=plural+of+virus+is+%2a)
I hadn't actually noticed how long it takes to update but more than 2 and a half hours to scan (even if I have a 300g hard drive) seems over the top
