I have been working as a Personal assistant for a fairly wealthy woman for almost 8 years now. I love my job, my boss loves the work I do for her. Unfortunately, most of her money comes from oil royalties, and the entertainment business.
With the oil prices dropping and the new OBama tax increase coming after he takes office, my boss has expressed concern for her holdings.
She told me yesterday that she will be fine and able to weather the change for the next four years, but her lifestyle is going to have to change. She has mentioned that she would hate to loose me, but the job I do for her is a luxury that she may have to do without.
I am very concerned about my future now. I have two children dependent on my income and there is a chance we would loose our house.
I was wondering if anyone else is seeing their future affected?
I voted for McCain. I followed this election very closely because I knew where the election of Obama would mean to my situation

No, I am worried anymore. I give it to God in Prayer, you should as well. It is not President Bush or President - Elect Obama, who is in control. That is the Lord God Almighty. Take care.
Oh ye of little faith.

I definitely do…I work on the Yucca Mt. Project for the Dept of Energy, which Obama and the Dems have vowed to shut down.

This is what talk radio has been warning you all about, but no one seemed to listen. In the words of the Reverend “The chickens have come home to roost.” We are in a major recession and it will affect everyone. I am an appraiser, when banks don’t give money, I dont work, my wife is a school teacher with a masters making 40K a year, she may have to quit something she loves and go back to the corporate world. Tighten the belt now, stuff the mattress with money and hang on it is going to be a bumpy ride. I hope you weather the storm.

I am sorry to say I feel it’s only the beginning. I read that business were already gearing up for Obama. A lot of companies will be laying people off because of the tax increases.

Yes, it has affected my job security. I am afraid I will lose my job because I have the urge to punch someone in the mouth for talking crazy about how Obama is this or that. I am so sick of getting chain emails at work too. It’s disgusting.

No, but I was concerned that my hubby would not get his bonus and stock awards this year. I have always been a frugal saver and tightwad, so I have adequate savings to weather through bad times. If I were you though, I would start sending out feelers in the job market to cover your bases and cut back on anything that isn’t essential while building up your savings. I think in these tough economic times everyone is feeling uncertain. Good luck.

I feel for you. My job is in jeopardy as well.
The good news is, Obama will hold your hand through it all, while his other hand is in your pocket looking for loose change.

No. My income began to be affected as the economy started sliding earlier this year. It really tanked when the bottom fell out of the mortgage lending industry — well ahead of any decision being made about the election. Now that money is tighter, my clients are spending less.
Your employer does realize, I hope, that Obama’s tax cuts are only for those making more than $250,000 a year? And that they only tax the difference between what your employer makes now and $250,000? So that if, for example, she made $260,000 yearly, the additional tax would only be on $10,000.
I hope you’ll retain your position with her!
