Now that I have AVG, I’m going to remove the McAfee Security Center through Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. But as I going to remove all of its programs - everything including the virus scans and firewall - I was facing a warning:
"You have a valid subscription for these programs that includes free updates. Removing these McAfee programs reduces your computer’s protection against security threats."
My subscription to McAfee is going to expire soon and I know I’ll have to pay if I do so. But I already have the AVG software that protects my computer against most threats by itself and I’m not sure if removing McAfee would still protect the other.
I’m not sure what will the effects will be if I remove one of the security programs. So I now ask: Has your computer ever been affected after removing McAfee (or even Norton), even when you have another protection software like AVG? Have you experienced slowness and other problems like that soon after?

I paid for a year with McAfee and they cut me off three months early…don’t ask me why…but I caught a nasty virus! No one from customer service would answer my inquiries. Couldn’t get their crap off my computer fast enough. I removed it all, then, downloaded Avast home edition and have been happy and safe for over a year. You should not have more than one anti virus protection systems at one time on your computer. Go ahead and remove McAfee, but I would recommend Avast 4. home edition.

Look Buddy ,
first of all you should not have two antivirus softwares installed at one time on ur pc .
Secondly , uninstall mcafee without any fears , because AVG will protect you .
I have protected my computer , using only free applications . You can hardly get a virus if you have the following installed .
Since u have AVG already , i will suggest u to add the following applications .
Malwarebytes - http://www.malwarebytes.org/
SuperAntispyware - http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html
Zone Alarm Free Firewall
http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/zonealarm-pc-security-free-firewall.htm
So u have all that mcafee provided in one suite , an antivirus , a firewall , an anti-malware and an anti-spyware .
So dunno worry .
Good Luck

Removing McAfee was 1 of the best thing I ever did with my computer. Constant problems and slowdowns ruined me on ever PAYING for AV protection again. I now use AVAST, but I have friends who use AVG and love it. Nothing bad will happen if you remove McAfee. Be advised though: it isn’t enough to just do the add/remove program or "McAfee uninstall". I did that and later found dozens of their files still hidden in my computer, and was being annoyed by McAfee to sign up again. To get rid of all McAfee related files click START, SEARCH, ALL FILES AND FOLDERS, type McAfee into the search boxes and click SEARCH. Delete anything that is found. You may need to do this a time or 2 to be sure you get everything. If something refuses to delete, right click it , click "open containing folder" and delete anything related to McAfee in the folder. It is a good idea to run a Registry cleaner - I use "Registry Mechanic" - to clean up the confusion left by the missing files. Probably wouldn’t hurt to run "disk defrag" too.
also, Make sure your "Computer Restore" is operating - just in case. Good luck.
