Out of nowhere my laptop has been infected with "Antivirus xp 2008". I am aware that this is "fake" it is incredibly annoying claiming that I have 714 viruses lol I just really want to get rid of it! I need someone who knows what I am talking about, or has had it on their pc to please tell me how to get rid of it! Or what have you tried and did not work so I won't take the same route
What it's doing to my computer:
1. Desktop background displaying ugly annoying message that reads "Warning! Spyware detected on your computer! Install an antivirus or spyware remover to clean your computer"
2. About every 2-3 minutes a pop up on my desktop bar next to my clock pops up informing me that Antivirus has found 714 viruses on my computer.
3. Browsing the internet i keep getting interrupted like it will not allow to continue to the page i'll have to re-enter web address or hit back button
4. can't find to delete on add/remove pograms
5. desktop right click properties most tabs are gone
thank you everyone in advance.

My best advise is to back-up your files, then reformat your computer.

XPAntiVirus2008 is counterfeit antispyware software which can hijack your web browser and redirect you to undesirable web sites. It also serves unsolicited and annoying pop-up advertisements and launch false security messages in your web browser.
Download the following which will remove it completely:
RogueRemover Free:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/RogueRemover_d5360.html
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe
Simple to use, just download check for updates and run.
With RogueRemover select Scan and the application will guide you through the remaining steps.
With Malwarebytes Anti-Malware select Perform quick scan, then click Scan. When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When completed, a log will open in Notepad. The rogue applications should now be gone.

most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.
besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.
download firefox for free, Just have a try:

7 Remove Antivirus XP 2008 // Jun 24, 2008
This is how I got rid of Antivirus XP 2008. It is different than the XP Antivirus 2008 most sites refer to.
First you need to stop the program from loading on startup. This is what you do to stop it:
Start, run
Type msconfig
Go to Startup tab
Uncheck lphc35dj0e1an
Uncheck rhc75dj0e1an
Click apply, then ok
Restart computer
Then you need to delete the main files this program uses. Delete the following file:
C:\windows\system32\lphc35dj0e1an.exe
Delete the following folder and all contents:
C:\program files\rhc75dj0e1an
This should remove the program from your system but you probably still have a warning message displayed as your wallpaper in Windows and the virus removed the ability to change the wallpaper or your desktop settings.
To restore ability to change your desktop settings and select a different wallpaper and screen saver do the following:
Start, run
type Gpedit.msc
Navigate to User configuration, Administrative Templates, Control Panel, Display
Right click on Remove Display in Control Panel
Click on Properties and select Disabled
Do the same steps to change the following attributes to disabled:
Hide Desktop Tab
Prevent changing wallpaper
Hide Apperance and Themes tab
Hide Settings tab
Hide Screen Saver tab
You should now be able to use your computer normally and change the wallpaper to something other than the warning message Antivirus XP 2008 set it to.
