Have Vista Home Premium. Have key for Vista Ultimate. Want to upgrade…can I just edit my Windows key?

June 24th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I know that Microsoft ships all versions of Vista on the same CD, so, do I technically already have Business Ultimate? I've got the Vista Ultimate CD, I just don't want to go through all the hassle of installing it if I can just edit my registration key.

no, because IF all versions of vista are on the cd depending on the product key you typed in at the beginning of the install it would have at that point been directed to which version of vista is would install.

Just changing the product key will not change anything or suddenly install more features unless you start over installing and use the ultimate key and reinstall windows…..

that is IF all versions of windows are really on your disk..

You won't be able to simply "edit" the registration key since this will be encrypted into the CD itself as well as backed up for verification when you connect to the Internet.

If you already own Vista Ultimate, then why not just use the key supplied with it? :) This is the best version of Windows Vista anyway.
