I have just wasted ages trying to install Service Pack 3 on my PC. Has anyone else had the same problem - and how do get round it.
The download took about 40 minutes. But, right at the end of the process, a little box popped up in the middle of my screen saying "Access denied" - but it didn't say why.
It then spent 20 minutes uninstalling what had been put on to my PC. When that finished, a message came up saying that Windows XP had been partially updated on my computer, but that "it might not work properly". GREAT!!!!!
Then it switched off my computer without asking me.
The total time taken was about 80 minutes - and Service Pack 3 was NOT installed, so all that time was wasted.
Can anyone suggest why access was denied? And how can repeat the installation of Service Pack 3 - but successfully?

It was your lucky day.SP3 is still very buggy, lots of people have many problems with it.You're better off without it on your computer for now.Maybe they will get the bugs worked out of it, but for now, that hasn't happened.

This happened to me a few times in the earlier versions of SP3. All I could do was wait until another build came out and successfully installed that one. I don't think they have released a final build yet so wait a couple of weeks and download it again off of Microsoft.com and try then.
