Having trouble connecting to a friend’s internet , friend does not know network security key?

September 12th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I’m at my friends house and she has internet through ATNT a DSL line, I believe. Unfortunately the guy who set it up was an imbecile and did not give her the password! Luckily all of her computers were set up, however I am unable to connect. Is there any way to retrieve it from the computer?
She's really not like that. XD I've been at her house using her internet before, all we do is surf on sites like Lol cats. She's not familiar with how the internet works, however, her father is the main one who uses it.

So the Security Key or Passphrase is located on the back of the modum?…

The key is on the back of the modem called SSID Wireless Settings

To me, it kind of sounds like your friend just doesn’t want you to use their internet connection. Not knowing one’s own network passphrase seems pretty far-fetched to me.

But if your friend really doesn’t know her passphrase, then she can just reset her router. Almost all routers have a physical switch or button that you can press to restore the router to factory settings. This will allow her to set up a new password. All other settings will have to be re-entered as well, however.
