HELP! CD-R Backup files?

Well i recently formated my comp back to factory and before i did this i put folders of pictures and a couple pdf.files etc. and i was able to see them a veiw the pics fine and other files they loaded up when i put the cd in, so then i got my computer running the way i wanted and decided to try to backup files just incase something happens again on my end i don't have to format but my problem is that i went to back up my files option it said insert cd but accidentily i put the cd-r in with data already on it and it started to spin and i'm assuming format for backing up files from C drive which i did not follow throw with. Well if i put the cd in and go to computer and click on properties it still shows data is there but it just says drag items etc.. doesn't show the data that i burned prior to this, like the cd is totally blank is there a way to undo this or not?
