OK I am trying to install Windows XP on my desktop. I am installing from a CD so the CD is scratched and setup is unable to copy the files shell32.dll and shell.hlp from the CD. The setup runs for some time but then stops saying that shell32.dll file is needed and it cannot proceed. How can I fix this problem fast NOW. I have already formatted the HDD with NTFS file system but this error occurs while it copies the files with that blue screen. Thanks for your help.

Shell32.dll is an important file in the set up process and without it, even had it not stalled at this point, the windows installation would have failed.
If the cd is scratched, you will either need to get a new copy of the XP cd or, there are some products on the market that enable you to polish out minor scratches on disks. I’ve seen one for sale in ToysRus (believe it or not) or you could try an electrical parts retailer (maplins etc). these kits aren’t very expensive and may be worth a try.
Hope that helps

I would rub disk with soft cotton cloth and tooth paste . This worked for me one time.
Good Luck

Could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This problem can be solved by uninstalling new softwares, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes . From http://fixit.in/bluescreenofdeath.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info
