I installed two programs from NCH Software: WavePad Sound Editor & Switch Sound File Converter.
Since the free trial ended, I wanted to Uninstall these programs because I didn’t really like them, or needed them that much. Every time I try to uninstall it ALL the audio files (Music) on my computer get messed up!
The little icon next to the song name changes from a blue note, into a blue note in front of a picture. When I double click on the song to play it wont! It says that Windows does not recognize the file type and does not know what program to open it with.. but the format is still mp3!
The only way it’ll play is if I right-click and go to open with Windows Media Player. A video got messed up too and had the same icon. Instead of a picture it turned into a blue note in front of a picture. This is really making me mad and I don’t understand why this is happening?
HOW DO I FIX THIS? HELP PLEASE!!
I keep doing system restores after I try uninstalling since it messes up my files and I REALLY don’t want to do a FULL system recovery. Also, I’ve tried contacting NCH software. I can’t find a number and tech support is for when you BUY programs but I’m having a problem with the trial versions. :’(
These programs arent changing the defualt program at all. When they are installed on my computer I just double click and it takes me straight to windows media player for both audio and video. Then when I uninstall the programs, the icon for audio files go from a blue note into a blue note with a picture behind it.
While the videos go from an icon with a picture into a blue note with a picture behind it.
So basically, after I uninstall it the icon for audios and videos both change into a blue note with a picture behind it.

Right-click any mp3 file, click Properties, then click open with… and choose your program.

well the software actually changes your fies’ default app to itself!
you can fix this by simple right clicking every file-type (not every file, just one of each type which is screwed up) and change its open-with to the program you prefer!
e.g if its a video file, change its open-with to windows media player or vlc or your prefered media player!
same for mp3s n all other filetypes which are screwed up!
you can also do it by changing it through ‘windows default applications’(can’t remember the real name, don’t use windows anymore! :P) from your control panel!

‘Changes into a blue note’?
That sounds like the icon you get for files which play in Itunes.
It’s as though that application as been set as default to play your music with. How about reinstalling?
I’m guessing you might have Vista? Alot of people seem to be having trouble with music files on that. Apparently the manufacturers of the motherboards, didn’t take care in the making of the new drivers for Vista. Therefore, there as been alot of other problems occuring with Vista, and with Vista as a whole takes up near enough the entire memory of your computer, which also makes games umplayable.
With me being on Vista I have also had problems with music playing. Here is the best thing to do, to solve the problem.
But don’t worry if its not vista that you are using, this will still solve the problem.
+ Download new versions of your Sound driver and then update the drives, via control panel.
I hope this helps. =)
