Download Spybot S&D and run it. Then download ccleaner and run it too. That should help a lot.

AVG is a good free AV product
      AdAware is a good/decent anti-mal/spy-ware product

If you don’t have antivirus or anti spyware products, I’m surprised if your PC will last very much longer. There’s a lot of stuff out there that can cause irreparable damage.

i use AVG free for my laptop and its been working quite well, plus its free!

and i also use ccleaner to clean up all those cookies and temporary files that you dont need

apart from that, i use spybot to detect all the spyware and malware.

i also recommend you to do defragment once a week or so. just go to start > all programs > accessories > system tools > defrag. it can help your laptop to run programs faster

Vista is in nature a bit slow for laptop because it prioritize the graphics features. i would also recommend you to choose wisely programs (by ticking it) that you want to run during startup. i think you could do this in personalize options.

and be careful when trying install software from internet. you could have downloaded spyware/ malware/adware without knowing it. for good internet browsing, use Mozilla Firefox instead of Internet Explorer as it blocks all the nasty pop-ups and wares.
      good luck ~

Well im supposing you got it all so for the anti-virus if you would like to save some money Avast works really well and its free. And for spyware you would like to use Spy-bot along with Malwarebytes. All of these programs can be downloaded from http://www.download.com

dude try kaspersky,it works very good,.
it has ahigh rate of virus detection and also sypware protection.
      it also looks good.
and even it occupies very small space in your total system memory.
      and it is fast too.
try to download its full version in the http://www.torrentz.com
      And also see http://www.kaspersky.com.

try AVG or Avast. AVG is free and Avast has a 30 day trial period (or you can get them by torrent). They never eat up more than 20 MB RAM if you check the task manager. NOD32 also doesn’t eat much but i didn’t really like it. If you have many viruses you should reinstall windows, even if you get all the viruses out, they probably messed up all of your registry and your computer will still be slow.

If you are having a virus or Malware problem, you should receive professional Malware removal support from a site like http://geekpolice.net/

I recommended it because they provide real fast support and a cure is guaranteed.
