When i switch on my computer, the welcome tune plays. In internet explorer, the error tune plays. But i can’t play music at all. When i play games at startup sound plays. But even if I play games 20 minutes late after startup sound does not play. I am to bored. Can anyone help?

first You Scan your computer and remove virus then reinstall the Win XP . If problem is till stick there then check your sound card may be that is not working properly.

Cause:
This issue could be caused by any of the below possibilities.
Bad software settings.
Corrupt or missing sound drivers.
Compatibility issues with the operating system and/or other hardware.
Speaker related issues.
Bad or missing sound card.
Solution:
Verify software volume control settings
First verify you see a small sound icon in the systray (generally at the bottom right hand corner of your screen). If this icon is missing follow the below section.
Windows XP
Open the Control panel
Open the “Sounds and Audio Devices” icon.
Verify the “Place volume icon in the taskbar” checkbox is checked. If this option is not available or is grayed out, then follow next steps.
If you were able to check this box, click ok and close out of this window and the Control Panel.
Double-click the sound icon in the systray and verify that all the sound volumes are mid-way or higher.
Otherwise follow these steps:-
If you are running Microsoft Windows XP make sure the speaker setup is correct. It is possible that during an installation of another program that the speakers software setup was changed causing issues with your sound. To do this follow the below steps.
Open Control Panel
Open “Sounds and Multimedia Properties” or “Sounds and Audio Devices” in Control Panel.
Click the “Audio” tab.
In the Audio tab click the “Advanced” button under “Sound Playback.”
In the Advanced Audio Properties window make sure your speaker setup is correct. If you’re not sure what to set this setting as, set it to the default “Desktop Stereo Speakers” option.
If you changed this setting click “Apply” and close out of all windows.

how long has this been going on? Any H/W or S/W changes? What happens if you try to play an MP3 file 20 minutes after you boot your computer? Can you play it in Winamp/WMP/iTunes? If you can not, I guess that the soundcard is fine, the drivers are fine, but there might be a resource conflict with another device driver… Try this.. disable all startup items (That you do not know, keep Anti virus enabled) & see if the problem is resolved. If it is, its just a matte of enabling devices/programs one by one to see the culprit .

Make sure your Sound Driver isn’t disabled, it may have inadvertently disabled itself during shutdown:
Go to Device Manager (Start> RightClick My Computer> Properties> Hardware Tab> Device Manager) and right click on your sound driver and choose enable. If not, try updating the driver, that will effectively restore it to factory settings if there’s an update available.
If you don’t know the name of you Sound Driver, so to Start> Run> dxdiag. Now go to the Sound Tab and any sound hardware installed is listed.
If that still doesn’t work, the driver may have been uninstalled. If so, go to your computer’s manufacturer’s website and go to the “Support” section. There should be a link for drivers. You will need to know your computer’s model, but once you enter that it will give you and option to download any missing drivers. Just find the Sound Driver and install it.
