i have a thumb drive i want to password protect so when go to open it up from my computer i can enter a password in order to view my files

aLL IM STORING IS PERSONAL TYPE STUFF LIKE PASSWORD AND USERNAMES INFORMATION THATS NOT TOOO RISKY THO

Actually, TrueCrypt is the easist way to go. You can set it up, like me, so that it automatically prompts you to enter your password and mount the encrypted drive, as soon as you plug in the USB flash drive. You don't need the TrueCrypt software installed on the target computer. I use my USB flash drive to store a text file with all username/passwords for different online things (banking,shopping,etc).
