      it could b/c ur computer is getting old and filled with junk. clean all the junk, fix the registry, and defrag your HD.

      same is the case with my computer but ni think this is all because of the many errors or viruses that had crept into your computer from different sources like the internet and or corrupted cd or floppy devices

      Do a few clean-ups :)

      1. Try defragmenting it. Go to
      -> Start
      -> All Programs
      -> Accessories
      -> System Tools
      -> Disk Defragmenter
      Then just run it. It takes awhile to finish - a few hours at the least.

      2. You can also try doing this
      -> Start
      -> All Programs
      -> Accessories
      -> System Tools
      -> Disk Cleanup
      It gets rid of junk that takes up place. Make sure you don't delete anything important though, like Internet Explorer. I did that lmao, but now I use Firefox and it's much much better. You can get rid of everything in your Recycling Bin through this - make sure you do!

      3. Also, Download CCleaner (Crap Cleaner) from here. http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
      It's free and doesn't contain viruses or anything. Do this every week.

      4. Next, make sure you have good internet security software. Personally, I think AVG 8.0 is very good. And it's free! Heres a link:
      http://free.avg.com/ww.download?prd=afe

      Next, go to..
      -> Start
      -> Control Panel
      -> Add or Remove Programs
      and remove any programs you don't use anymore.

      5. As you use your hard drive, it can develop bad sectors. Bad sectors slow down hard disk performance and sometimes make data writing (such as file saving) difficult, or even impossible. The Error Checking utility scans the hard drive for bad sectors, and scans for file system errors to see whether certain files or folders are misplaced. To run the Error Checking utility you:

      -> Close all open files.
      -> Click Start, and then click My Computer.
      -> In the My Computer window, right-click the hard disk you want to search for bad sectors, and then click Properties.
      -> In the Properties dialog box, click the Tools tab.
      -> Click the Check Now button.
      -> In the Check Disk dialog box, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start.

      Hope I helped. Good luck :)

      Edit.

      My brother just told me some more stuff to add :)

      Remove unnecessary programs from start up (when you turn your computer on, some programes will automatically run).

      Go to Start > Run
      Write msconfig and enter
      Select the startup tab.
      Uncheck unnecessary programs from there except the anti-virus like program which is needed to run automatically. Go to this website http://www.processlibrary.com/ for help on doing this. :)
      Press OK
      Restart the system.

      Also, Ideally minimum of 256 MB RAM is needed to run a windows XP OS.If your RAM is less than that you may have to upgrade memory to get good speed.

      To check memory size:
      Right click on the My Computer icon. Select Properties.
      In the general tab you can see the System memory size. It should be like *** MB of RAM.

      Again, hope I helped :)

      if ur using windows on this mac go to start>run> msconfig>starups… turn off watever is not important and then a more advaced step here..
      start>run> services.msc then turn off useless windows services i recommend checking the use of services and just consider whether u need the service.. u could close the index service if u dunt use the search option that often .. u com could have been slower because the index service have to index more files as no. of files being used in the windows have increased..

      For running slow there are many causes:
      Microsoft Registry Problems = Slow Computer!
      Spyware/Adware
      RAM
      De-Fragmenting
      Etc.

      Below can help you speed up your pc:

      For IE, click Tools, Internet Options delete files (offline files) clear history (set days to save to 0 if you want) click o.k., and Restart

      For Firfox, press ctrl+shift+del, and click clean private data.

      Manage your startup:
      Open your Start menu -> Click Run -> In the command screen type “msconfig.exe” -> In the “system configuration utility”, click either “service” or “startup” tab -> Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.

      De-Fragmenting
      1. Right click of C Disk.
      2. Click properties.
      3. Click tools tab.
      4. Click “Defragment now”.
      5. Click Defragment.

      You can search which process full use you cpu, and end the process.

      Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant,corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause “computer slow”.
      Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you’ve installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it’s Registry entries.You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!
      There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.
