my internet explorer works fine except for when i close it. when i close out of internet explorer, it says "internet explorer has stopped working" and closes it, but opens a new one. what's worse, if i even want to close out one window or tab of internet explorer, all of them "stop working" and close off. if i just keep all the windows open, it works fine. what is the issue!? this has happened before, but i think it went away on its own, but this time it's not! what should i do?
please give me suggestions other than changing my browser. lol.

The problem is that you are using IE.
Worst program that MS makes.
Download Firefox or Opera. They are over 9000 times better!

First check for viruses or spyware it sounds like you might have some. Next go to Microsoft update and make sure you got all the updates for your computer including the ones for IE. You should also clean out unnecessary files on your computer and defragment the hard drive.

Start IE up and got to tools and windows updates. Get them all, because there are a lot that interweave with IE. Framework and .net as well, and after loading all of them they have service packs. Also IE has service packs as well. After your finished with the updates, reload flash and shock-wave from Adobe. Use a cleaner to clean your cache and get rid of your cookies as well. If you can't find a good free cleaner, email me I have one that is great. It's free and I use it a lot. If you need more help email me.

I would start here:
Look at you application log and look for an error at the time it crashes.
start > run > compmgmt.msc
system tools > event viewer > application log
find out the error and take it from there, there could be many many things causing this.
It seems like the others seem to think that Windows Update is a cure all, in fact it is the opposite in many cases, find the root cause, don't add to the problem.
Then after you fix it, I agree with the others, get Firefox, sorry couldn't help it, it's true.
*Edit
Yea, thumbs down for me for looking for an error yeaaaaa
