I have been infected with some nasty trojan viruses. I've never had a virus before but since I do share a computer with my brother, it's kinda obvious what he's been deen downloading since the computer is now infected with these things. I downloaded AVG and its scanning as I write this and it found some threats already. Some of the files have been healed but when I try to heal others it says error. What should I do when this happens and will AVG completly get rid of the trojans?
Thank you ![]()

Hmm.. Try and download "Spybot" or "Avast!". Those are the programs i use.
PS AVAST is better.

Several things you can try:
- Download other AVs like Avast and run those. Also run anti-spyware programs like Spybot search and destroy and ad-aware.
- Look at the viruses you're not getting rid of and go to an antivirus vendor's website and download the removal tool for that virus (I know symantec has removal tools available)
- If all that fails look up how to remove the viruses on google. This will most likely mean destroying any system restore points on your system (since they're most likely infected), deleting various files, and deleting various registry entries (which if done wrong will ruin your OS)
- Go out and buy a retail AV like NOD32 or Kaspersky. There's a reason they cost money while AVs like Avast and AVG are free as you've found out.
- If nothing works (the viruses on your PC could very well be programmed to sabotage any AV installation) then you'll have to reformat your PC. And after you do that I'd suggest buying an old piece of crap computer for your brother so he can go do what he wants to do without ruining anything valuable.

Do a system restore to a time before the viruses were detected:
Start>All programs>Accessories>System Tools>System restore
Then choose to restore from a previous restore point.
Then choose the date [make sure its before you noticed the viruses]
Alternatively - Get Avast or Avira!

In that case, you will have to manually remove the viruses from the location which AVG has detected them in. After AVG has finished scanning, look at the location for the infected files which AVG is unable to heal by itself. Go into the location, probably somewhere in OS (C:), and simply delete the specified files yourself. And, as others have suggested, a better option would be to use AVIRA antivirus or AVAST antivirus…both are better than AVG.
