So I think my computer has contracted a virus, in which AVG did nothing to protect me from. So I am trying to uninstall AVG and install Kaspersky. I never had a problem when I had Kaspersky but I tried to go the cheap route and I guess you get what you paid for…nothing. But when I tried to install Kaspersky it told me I must uninstall AVG first. Well I did that already! Now I don’t know what to do. I tried to manually uninstall something in the past which amounted to disastrous results.
Please help!

Personally, I would do a couple of things…
(It all depends on how bad things really are)
1. Go to Symantec.com and get the Norton 360 "30 Day Free Trial"
2. Uninstall your current anti-virus and fire wall.
3. Install the Norton 360 "30 Day Free Trial"
4. Run the full system scan.
5. If it finds the virus, disinfect the quarantined files.
6. Uninstall Norton 360 "30 Day Free Trial".
7. Install the long term virus scan and fire wall of your choice.
8. Run a full system scan.
9. Fix anything if it finds.
Live long and prosper.
If you find a virus that can't be disinfected, take the file/virus name and go to http://www.dogpile.com and copy/paste the file name in to the search bar. Somone will tell you what it is and how to get rid of it.
If nothing shows up no matter what you use, personally, I would reinstall windows on your hard drive. I do that about once a year if I need it or not just to keep the clutter down and my system speed up.

Use RevoUninstaller to remove remnants of AVG:
http://www.download.com/Revo-Uninstaller/3000-2096_4-10687648.html?part=dl-RevoUnins&subj=uo&tag=button&cdlPid=10854684
It’s faster and better than add / remove applet.
When you run it highlight the item then select uninstall in next window select Advanced and click Next, follow prompts when uninstalled it will scan registry and drive for leftover files / folders, click + sign to expand all results and tick ONLY the bold items and follow prompts.

Do NOT go to DOGPILE.com for any reason, ever! They will infect your computer and you will not be able to remove without extensive repairs.
