Everytime I import my video files into Movie Maker they appear as audio only files. If I play them on Windows Media Player… video and audio. I am going nuts! How the heck do I fix this??
I'm assuming that mpg files are compatible…? That's the file type of the vids I'm trying to upload. When I play them, the video shows. But when I import them to Movie Maker and drag them into my timeline, they appear in the audio file section… yet, they aren't audio files.
OK - anyone know how to convert them to .wmv files? lol

Make sure you have added compatible video files to your movie. Then click on publish and the onto my computer. It should ask you to choose a couple of settings. If you keep it on the defualt and click publish it should work… Otherwise try re installing it.

if you put it in your movie ‘planner’ thing, you can click timeline, then audio levels, and you can choose which sound you hear

You don't have to convert them it would take you hours and hours. If you still want to it's called Windows Media Encoder and it's free on Microsoft's website.

Try a codec pack like this. This is a common problem.
You are missing a Codec needed to encode and play these videos. I would go to somewhere like http://www.betanews.com and search downloads for codec download the best rated and most downloaded version. If that does work try a different codec pack.
If you use a JVC or other video cam you might have to find a codec just for that format.
You can thank the lawsuits for Microsoft not being able to include this stuff in the system.
