I always had a linksys (wireless and wired) network setup in my house and it worked flawlessy. Then my main computer (that connects directly to the internet) crashed and I had to format C:\ and reinstall XP Home. The tricky part is my internet still works on this laptop of mine, however I cant get it to function on my main computer. I tried following the directions in the Network Connections settings, but it didnt do anything. I also tried doing the http://192.168.1.1 path but that didnt seem to work either. Anyone know what to do?

Ok, well first and formost check to make sure the device drivers are installed and updated. if you still have a problem, check the TCP/IP settings and make sure that it is set to obtain everything automatically. this should help you get connected up!

check in the device manager if your network card is functional
if you have a built in network card - you will need the install disk to set up the drivers
sounds to me like your network card is not set up if you could not get online at all
if you have get a standard network card of a usb one that is not brand new ( or you have the disk)
Placed into the usb or the pci slot it should get installed off the hop
Then install the drivers
Or download the install drivers ( either from motherboard maker) of if you have an nvidia chipset from nvidia
Use the second computer - you can move with a flash drive or burn a cd
Have fun
