Help/advice anti virus McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0.0?

I work for a company that uses the anti virus software shown above, installed on the client machines individually as well as the server. Although it updates virus definitions daily we have recently experienced quite a lot of infections via email.

My questions are?
1. is this inadequate anti virus software?
2. is it likely to be due to settings within the software regarding email scanning?
