last night the laptop turned off and i thought oh okay battery is dead, and left it, this morning when my girlfriend and i tried to turn it on it went to the screen saying “start windows normally” and all the other options, we’ve had that before so i clicked start normally it loads past microsoft screen but then goes all black when the vista picture comes up playing the music, and that doesnt change. what could it be???
hey i tried safe mode, doesnt work either.

and it is the real version of vista, brought the computer brand new from dicksmith.
we dont have the vista cd though.
and i cant remember anything new installed. other then one game.
i cant even get into the computer to change anything.
even in safe mode its just black and i can only see the mouse.
could it be the updates? i said wait 4 hours. and then it turned off :S they didnt install.

Is your version legal? This happens to illegal versions. Maybe you installed some program which messed everything up, during the turning up of the computer choose "last known good configuration" maybe thats going to fix the problem, if it doesnt just try booting up in safe mode and see if that works, if it does just uninstall the programs you installed recently and if that failes just insert the vista DVD and try the repair, its fairly straitforward, just follow on screen instructions. You also could of messed up the video drivers, if safe mode works then dowload the video drivers and install them.
Try and dowload ubuntu linux its free, you dont even have to install it, just download it from another computer and burn it to a CD then insert it in the disc drive and during the startup the CD should boot, choose the option where you can try ubuntu without installing it, then you can access your windows vista folders and can do some changes, i know it may not fix the problem but atleast you will be able to use the PC and access the folders
