I try everything in the book beleive me, & still slow, from defrag. to disk clean up, registry cleaner, fixing disk errors, add or remove programs, advance tab, ETC.

system restore then you can choose a date to restore to and see if this helps
If you mean to do a recovery install to when you first purchased the Computer then you may need the recovery discs or the recovery partition on your computer and you will need to boot into the partition on start up usally you press F11 but it can be different
