safe to download the malwarebytes and superanti spyware on my computer? is it safe with avast? & how often should i scan? is tyhis the best to help my pc from malware etc? thanks so much!

Both those programs are safe yes…
Usually it is bad to download multiple antivirus and spyware scanners “IF” and I repeat “IF” they run in the background or when your computer starts up…
Fortunately Avast runs in the background and is only 1 virus scanner so you are fine on that.
Superantispyware runs in the background and fortunately malwarebytes does not. Malwarebytes is a manual scan program.
Both are good and if you suspect you are infected I recommend heading to http://www.geekstogo.com and checking into their malware section. They offer free support on properly removing spyware/malware in an un-damaging to your system way. They are professional.

I would not install more than one anti-virus program since they slow down your computer. Spyware is a different matter though. I don’t know of any spyware detection program which finds everything so it’s a good idea to try several different ones every now and then.
I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 on my machines which is pretty good because it’s updated hourly and protects against both viruses and spyware. I also use on occasion malwarebytes (free), ad-aware (free) and spysweeper (subscription). I don’t have Spysweeper installed all the time however.
