Hi, I was wondering if I should keep my Norton Antivirus program or should I just remove it completely.?

June 2nd, 2008 · 3 Comments

Since I already have something wrong with my Laptop, most likely its Spyware, should I just remove my Norton Antivirus, I payed for this program to protect my machine, but now I feel it was a complete wast of money now, because it didnt prevent my machine from getting infected in the first place. These are the other Anti Virus programs I have currently installed.
1) Dr. Web
2)Norton
3) SpywareBlaster
4)Spybot seach and destroy
5) Spysweeper.

My question is simply this, should I continue to update my Norton or is there any other freeware aside from the ones I already have that will be more effective in blocking and preventing my machine from further or future infections. BTW, I have a Toshiba Laptop, hope that helps. Thank you guys for answering my other questions as well.

Dont have more than one antivirus and spyware program in the computer. You can have Norton antivirus and SUPERAntispyware in the computer.

Just personal experience, with little technical knowledge.

I used Norton anti-virus for 3 computers over about 7-8 years, and almost always had problems with it. Mostly, it just chews up alot of CPU space without accomplishing anything worthy of it's existence. AND ironically, my computers always had viruses the second I didn't pay the renewal fee, like the software was pre-programmed to corupt and let loose nasties if you choose to bail out… I have had computers with no antivirus installed and never had a problem - but I don't recommend this option. Beware of trying to uninstall Norton, as it comes with a host of problems too, and your computer will never quite be the same. Get a professional (or professional backyarder) to help you. I will never ever purchase norton again.

Get rid of it. It's the greatest resource hog piece of bloatware on the market.

The others are OK. If you use the new AVG 8.1.2 you won't even need them.
