This program has wormed its way into my computer and is popping up every few seconds telling me I have files with virus in them. Some of the files they list originated by me and have been inactive for years.
This is a big nuisance

Power Antivirus 2009 is the newest form of Antivirus XP. It's designed to lure you into purchasing it and is one of the most dangerous rogue antivirus programs out there. I'd recommend trying these following steps:

Firstly, antivirus programs will NOT remove these as they are malicious codecs, although they may find reference to them and remove it but upon rebooting it’s back again. It’s the program itself that is the problem, aka ‘rogue software’
The following programs will get rid of it for free:
RogueRemover:

Download, install, update, scan and follow on screen prompts.
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?hhTest=1.
Download, install, update and select Full Scan.
Remove all infections that it finds after scan.
Spybot S&D, turn OFF Tea Timer protection:

Download, install, update and Immunize, then click ‘Check for problems’ then when complete select all and then ‘Fix Checked’
Spyware Doctor Free Basic Edition - Realtime monitoring:

Its free with Google pack, untick all boxes except Spyware Doctor. Download install, update and run.
SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition:

Download, install, check for updates, then select Scan your Computer, select your drive and select Perform Complete Scan
VundoFix:

Disconnect your computer from the internet
Run vundo
Restart your computer
Run the tool again to ensure no traces are left.
If there are the reboot into Safe Mode and run FixVundo again.

Note: You should hit all “Repair” buttons even though it may not say “Found!” This will fix a wallpaper hijack everytime if all repair buttons are pressed.

Power AntiVirus is a type of malware (Like viruses and spyware are). It isn’t an anti virus at all. It is recommended for you to remove this program from your computer as soon as possible. Follow these instructions to remove:
*Download Malware Bytes’ Free Anti Malware from here: http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe
Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
* Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select “Perform Quick Scan”, then click Scan.
* The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Make sure that everything is checked
* Click Remove Selected.
* When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
* The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

IS IT BLOCKING YOUR WEB PAGES AND SAYING THAT YOU ARE INFECTED BY WORMS ECT?
WELL I HOPE YOU DIDN'T DOWNLOAD THIS PROGRAM! IF YOU SAY IT WORMED ITS WAY ON YOUR PC AND YOU DIDN'T INSTALL THEN I KNOW HOW TO SHUT IT DOWN!
"FOLLOW THESE EASY STEPS"
1.GO TO THE START MENU
2.GO IN MY COMPUTER
3.IN MY COMPUTER GO IN LOCAL DISK
4.IN LOCAL DISK GO IN THE FOLDER NAMED "PROGRAM FILES" AND OPEN IT!
5.IN PROGRAM FILES LOOK FOR THE FOLDER NAMED Power-Antivirus.
6.WHEN YOU FIND IT DELETE THE ENTIRE FOLDER!
NOTE:IF THE FOLDER REFUSES TO DELETE THEN OPEN THE FOLDER AND MANUALLY DELETE EVERYTHING ONE BY ONE[EVERY SINGLE THING]
WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED YOUR PROBLEM WILL BE OVER CAUSE YOU DELETED THE LINKS THAT MAKES THE PROGRAM WORKS!
*MAKE SURE AND EMPTY YOUR RECYCLE BIN AFTER!
