How can I make Windows XP see a wireless network?

September 12th, 2008 · 4 Comments

My Dell desktop is unable to find our wireless network. Both my laptop and Playstation are able to find it and connect to it with no effort/problem. The SSID is not hidden and there is no encryption. The Dell is able to see other networks, just not the one I’m trying to use.

You do have a wireless adapter in the desktop, right? It is enabled, right?

Make sure your wireless card is enabled. Click start then right click on my computer and select properties. Click the hardware tab and the click device manager. Go to where it says network adapters and open the tree make sure there wireless adapter is enabled.

I am presuming you have a wireless card on the dell computer.

Turn off the dell wireless connection program and run the wireless network setup wizard in xp located in network places. Manually type in the SSID and it should connect that way.

If the dell computer is the main one then why not just use an ethernet cable to connect it for a more reliable connection.
