Well, to start I just got Windows Vista a few months ago. It works great, but the trouble came when I decided to connect all of my computers - XP Home, XP Professional and Vista - to a home network. I have a broadband connection that connects into my wireless router, and the Vista connects, wired, through that router. My ethernet printer also connects through that router. I have 2 wireless computers, an XP Home and XP Professional, that connect to the router's wireless connectivity. Whenever I go into the Vista Network center, I can always connect to the other XP computers, but when I go into the My Network Places in any of the XP ones, I can see the Vista, but cannot connect to it. I get an error message saying, "You do not have permission to access this network resource." I have no clue whats wrong. I tried downloading that update (I don't remember the name) that lets you see the entire network on Vista, and that worked, but only for the Network Map. Please help if you can!

This happened to me:
You need the vista machine to allow the other computers to connect to it.
Heres how to do it:
(Do this on the Vista Machine you are trying to connect to)
1. First make sure you have set file sharing to 'on' in the 'Network and Sharing Centre'
2. If you are sharing any drives on the vista machine, then go to My Computer > Right click the drive/disk you are sharing, click 'properties', then click the 'Sharing' tab at the top.
Then click 'Advanced Sharing' button, then click the 'permissions' button, There should be a group called 'Everyone', Make sure that the 'Read' button is checked with a tick. You can tick the other boxes if you want to be able to delete, or add files onto the Vista shared drive.
3. If you are sharing any folders on the Vista machine then follow the same steps as the drives tutorial above (right click on the folder, click properties, click sharing tab, click advanced sharing button, click permissions, check 'read box')
Also: your firewall may be the problem, make sure that you have added all the IP addresses of the machines that are connecting to the Vista machine to the 'allow' list on your firewall.
