Dump the Norton and try the free Avira anti virus or AVG anti virus

Yahoo uses Norton automatically and you cannot stop this. I must assume that the scan starts but never finishes? Something else is happening to you. Perhaps your internet connection is very slow and/or the files are very large?
If you can provide a little more information about what happens we might be able to help more.
