June 26th, 2008 · 1 Comment

i was trying to install kasperksy antivirus but then it wont install. it needs to remove the other antivirus software. it was able to remove AVG but not the Symantec AntiVirus. i tried using the add/remove programs in the control panel, ddnt work. i also tried the norton removal tool, wont work as well. it says it need another file which is missing or in the wrong directory. i cant find the file and i dont know which directory its talking about. the symantec antivirus came with my laptop and i dont have the installer for it. the laptop is also about 2 years old already. im using XP. 1) Download and install EasyCleaner: http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm
      2) In the EasyCleaner Add/Remove list, find "Norton AntiVirus"
      3) Click on the "Delete" button - NOT THE UNINSTALL BUTTON
      4) Find where Norton is stored on your computer - it's usually in the C:\Program Files folder.
      5) Delete Norton AntiVirus and everything related to Norton. If Norton is running while you are trying to delete, try to stop it. If it will not stop, boot into Safe Mode and delete the files. If you do not know how to get into Safe Mode, read the end of my answer.
      6) Delete any Start Menu shortcuts that relate to Norton.
      7) Launch EasyCleaner again and do a Registry clean-up.
      8) Reboot.
      9) You should now be free from that piece of junk called Norton.

      To boot to Safe Mode:
      1) Turn off your computer.
      2) Turn it back on while repeatedly tapping the "F8" key.
      3) Use the arrow keys to select the option to boot to Safe Mode and press the "Enter" key to boot.
      4) Log in and do what you need to do. Since you're using XP, I recommend logging in as the Administrator to avoid any problems.
