How can I update the ddraw.dll file?

Quick and to the point, I couldnt play any games on my computer because error message said ddraw.dll file was missing. So I tried to uninstall then reinstall DirectX and still no file showed up. So I found a website that offered the file & I downloaded it and moved it to the system32 folder and now when I run DirectX diagnostic test it recognizes it but says it needs to be updated. Can someone please tell me where or how I can update this. I'm using Windows XP…Thanks in advance!!
